HOW TO BE PARISIAN: RECIPE FOR MACARONS

Hi everyone! Or should I say ‘Bonjour, tout le monde’?

In my first (!!!!!) YouTube video, I’m showing you how to make some yummy macarons. At first, I thought it would be soooo difficult to make these, because everyone always says so. But, luckily, that was not the case at all. The recipe is very simple and if you follow all of these steps, there’s no chance that this won’t work out. I thought it would be easier to show you everything in a video, so hopefully you find it helpful.

Ingredients

For the batter you will need:
6 egg whites
Pinch of salt
400g powdered sugar
250g almond flour
Food-coloring of choice

For the filling you will need:
350g powdered sugar
240g butter
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons cream
1 tablespoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon cacao
1 tablespoon strawberry jam

Directions

For the batter you will have to:

Put 6 egg whites into a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and whisk until you have a fluffy mixture. Continue by adding a spoon of powdered sugar and whisk again. You can then start adding half of the powdered sugar. Whisk until everything has blended in. After that, add the rest of the powdered sugar and whisk again. It’s important to sieve the powdered sugar, to avoid clots in your batter. Finish off by adding the almond flour to the mixture and whisk.

Now you can split the mixture into separate bowls, to add the food-coloring. The amount of colors is up to you. Make sure to add enough food-coloring. The batter should be very vibrant, whereas mine was pastel. I didn’t add enough, so don’t make the same mistake! 🙂

If you’ve added the colors, you can now put one colored mixture into a piping bag and start making circles on your baking sheet. Do this for each color, using different piping bags.

For the filling you will have to:

Put the butter into a bowl and whisk until it has softened. Add the powdered sugar and blend that in. After that, you can add the vanilla extract and cream. Whisk again. Split the mixture into separate bowls and add your flavors. I chose lime, strawberry and chocolate. Stir, and the filling is done!

To finish off:

Preheat your oven to 170°c and bake the macarons for 14 minutes. Once you’ve taken them out of the oven, let them cool. You can start adding the filling to your macarons once they’ve cooled down.

Important

Make sure to let the macarons rest for about 30 to 40 minutes before putting them in the oven.

The chocolate macarons were definitely my favorites, so here’s how they turned out:
