Did you know that flour is one of the ingredients that makes pizza so unhealthy? The flour we buy at the store contains zero nutrients. This makes it easy for the body to convert it into sugar. It stays in your body and turns into fat.
Flour is one of the main ingredients of the pizza crust. So does that mean we shouldn’t eat pizza anymore?! No, because there is a simple solution! I’ll show you how you can make a delicious pizza that tastes exactly the same as the one you’ve always eaten, but is much healthier.
Let’s do this!
For the crust you will need:
Half of a large cauliflower
1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup parmesan
Seasoning of your choice
You might be wondering: ‘Cauliflower?!’, but I thought it was weird too when I first found this on Pinterest. But I can guarantee you, this pizza is going to turn out delicious! You won’t even taste a difference.
Chop up the cauliflower and put it into a foodprocessor. Let it do it’s thing for about 30 seconds, until the cauliflower looks like ‘snow’.
If you don’t have a foodprocessor, you could use a grater, but this will obviously take a bit longer.
Pour everything into a bowl, wrap with plastic foil and place in the microwave for about 3 minutes. This will make the cauliflower tender, which will lead to a crispy crust instead of a crumbly one.
Once you’ve taken the gown out of the microwave, pour the cauliflower onto a towel and let it cool down for a couple of minutes. Once it has cooled down, you can twist the towel and squeeze out all of the fluid. My cauliflower contained a lot of fluid, so it took me a while. I got about a glass full. It’s important to squeeze out every drop, otherwise your batter won’t get crispy.
Take a bowl and put in the mozzarella cheese, the parmesan and a whisked egg. If you’ve squeezed the fluid out of the cauliflower, you can add that as well. Mix everything together using your hands. This is the easiest method and will only take you a minute. Add some seasoning and your batter is done!
Place the batter onto a baking sheet and pat it down until it’s evenly spread. Don’t make it too thin and don’t make it too thick.
Put the crust into the oven at 280°c for about 10 minutes. This can depend on the type of oven you’re working with, so just check once in a while and take it out when it’s golden brown.
Add your preferred toppings and put the pizza into the oven for another 5-7 minutes.
And voila, your pizza is done! Now you can enjoy your meal without feeling guilty after finishing it. My oven broke down in the process of making this pizza, so sadly I can’t make one for a while now. But as soon as it’s fixed, you can bet I’m making another one! Absolutely loved this pizza and didn’t feel bloated afterwards, which is always nice! 🙂
