5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOUR MAC COULD DO

If you’re a Mac-owner, this is going to be a great post for you. Grab your computer, read this post and find out which great things you can do with your Mac, without even knowing it! I will show you 5 simple but awesome tricks that will make you love your computer even more.

Your computer can read a text out loud, if you don’t feel like reading it yourself.

1. Highlight the section of text you don’t want to read.

2. Select Edit at the top of the page.

3. Click on Speech.

4. Select Start Speaking.

There are multiple voices and speeds for you to choose from. Just select the one you like best, sit back and your text will be read to you. Want to stop the reading-session? Just go back to Edit and click on Stop Speaking. It’s that simple!

Sadly, the Dutch language is not available.

Speak to your computer and you don’t have to typ in your text.

I am constantly eating, so if I want to write a blogpost I have to put my plate aside and start typing. After typing a couple of sentences, I grab a few bites but continue writing right after. Does this sound relatable? Of just imagine, you just painted your nails and you’re letting them dry. All of a sudden, a great idea for a blogpost pops into your head and you NEED to write it right this second! Well, there goes your nail polish.

But did you know there’s a solution for this?

1. Select Edit at the top of the page.

2. Click on Start Dictating.

3. Speak.

4. Click Done when you’re done.

Very easy, but so useful! Just make sure to articulate well and your text will pop up in an instant.

Sadly, your text will not be typed out if you speak in Dutch.

Find out what’s making your battery run low. 

This is probably the most simple one. I didn’t know this, but I think it’s quite interesting and useful.

1. Click on the battery icon at the top of the page.

You will find a list of apps that are making your battery run low. If you don’t need those apps, close them and your battery will last longer.

Super fast calculating.

If you’re in the middle of doing your homework or paperwork, you’ll probably have a calculator nearby. Or maybe, you’re using the calculator on the computer. But did you know there was a faster way of getting your work done?

1. Click on Spotlight.

2. Typ in your numbers.

The answer will immediately be shown. I think there’s no faster way of solving math problems!

Finish your essay in less time. 

Every week, you have to write an essay but first, you have to typ in your name, class, title etc. This takes up quite a bit of time, that could be spent on other things. Or maybe, you use the same words or sentences quite often, but you don’t feel like typing them over and over again. Well, your problem can be fixed! This one can be used for something simple as swapping ‘ttyl’ to ‘talk to you later’ or for something complex as the end of an email, that contains all your info.

1. Click on System Preferences.

2. Select Language & Region.

3. Click on Keyboard Settings.

4. Choose Text.

5. Add your shortcuts.
